- A phone number you can add in Your info as a way to sign in.
- Account recovery codes, which Microsoft is phasing out for personal accounts.
Add your TwinNumber on Microsoft
- 01
Open the Security tab
Sign in at account.microsoft.com/security and select Manage how I sign in.
- 02
Add the new number
Choose Add a new way to sign in or verify, enter the number and type the code Microsoft sends.
- 03
Remove the old one
Once the new number works, remove the old one, without changing all your security info at the same time.
Why the line type matters
Account providers often check whether a number is mobile, landline or VoIP before sending a code, and many turn VoIP numbers away. TwinNumber numbers are registered as mobile.

Is Microsoft stopping SMS codes?
Microsoft says it will start phasing out SMS for sign-in and recovery on personal accounts, in favor of passkeys and a verified email. The option to add a phone may already be missing on some accounts.
Can the same number be on two Microsoft accounts?
No. A phone number can be added to a single Microsoft account, though you can move it if you own both accounts.
Does Microsoft accept VoIP numbers?
No, VoIP numbers can't be added to sign in or get verification codes. TwinNumber numbers are registered as mobile.
Do I need to live in the U.S.?
No. TwinNumber works from 150+ countries with just a browser and an internet connection.
Is TwinNumber affiliated with Microsoft?
No. We test our numbers with popular services and publish the results. Microsoft is a trademark of its owner.
