What Google uses your number for
- A recovery phone that gets a code by text if you're ever locked out of your Google Account.
- Alerts when there's suspicious activity on your account.
- Sign-in in some places, and 2-Step Verification codes, which you manage in their own settings.

- 01
Open Personal info
At myaccount.google.com, click Personal info, then Phone and your phone number.
- 02

Next to the number, select Edit, then Update number, and follow the steps to verify it.
- 03

The number used for 2-Step Verification is managed in its own settings, so update it there too.
Why the line type matters
Account providers often check whether a number is mobile, landline or VoIP before sending a code, and many turn VoIP numbers away. TwinNumber numbers are registered as mobile.
Why banks reject Google Voice →Questions
Why does a new recovery phone take time to work on Google?
Google says a change can take up to 7 days to take effect, and it can keep sending codes to your old number during that time. A passkey or security key on the account can speed this up.
Can I use a Google Voice number as my recovery phone?
Google advises against it, because verification codes sent to Google Voice can't be received and you could lock yourself out. It recommends a number that takes texts and belongs only to you.
Does changing my number in my Google Account change it everywhere?
No. It affects only some Google services; 2-Step Verification, Google Pay, Calendar and others keep their own phone settings.
Do I need to live in the U.S.?
No. TwinNumber works from 150+ countries with just a browser and an internet connection.
Is TwinNumber affiliated with Google?
No. We test our numbers with popular services and publish the results. Google is a trademark of its owner.
What if a code doesn't arrive?
