What Coinbase uses your number for
- An SMS code to verify your phone while you create your Coinbase account.
- Text message 2-step verification, the default method, when you sign in.
- Recovery of your sign-in when you can't receive codes, often with an ID check.
Add your TwinNumber on Coinbase
- 01
Open Security settings
Go to Settings > Security > 2-Step Verification; in the app you can also use Account & settings > Phone numbers.
- 02
Confirm with your current method
Coinbase asks for your existing 2-step verification before it lets you edit the number.
- 03
Add the new number
Enter the new number and type the SMS code Coinbase sends to it.
Why the line type matters
Exchanges and brokerages often check whether a number is mobile, landline or VoIP before sending a code, and many turn VoIP numbers away. TwinNumber numbers are registered as mobile.

Should I use SMS or a passkey for Coinbase 2-step verification?
Coinbase calls SMS its least secure option and recommends a passkey or security key, which aren't tied to your phone number. Keeping SMS on a number you control still matters as a fallback.
I lost access to my old number. How do I get back into Coinbase?
On coinbase.com in a browser, choose "I don't have access to my phone number" below the code box. You may be asked to verify your identity with a government ID.
Does a U.S. number change Coinbase's identity verification?
No. Coinbase verifies your identity with your own ID and details, and the services available to you depend on where you live, not on your phone number.
Do I need to live in the U.S.?
No. TwinNumber works from 150+ countries with just a browser and an internet connection.
Is TwinNumber affiliated with Coinbase?
No. We test our numbers with popular services and publish the results. Coinbase is a trademark of its owner.
What if a code doesn't arrive?
