What Claude uses your number for
- A one-time phone verification for every new Claude account, with a six-digit code sent by text.
- Nothing else: Anthropic says the number is used only for account verification.
- Not for signing in, which works with Continue with Google or a link sent by email.

Type the six-digit code from the text. If it hasn't come after five minutes, click Try again and re-enter your number.
Why the line type matters
AI platforms often check whether a number is mobile, landline or VoIP before sending a code, and many turn VoIP numbers away. TwinNumber numbers are registered as mobile.

Can I change the phone number on my Claude account later?
No. Anthropic says there isn't a way to change the number once the account is verified, so verify with one you plan to keep.
Does Claude accept VoIP numbers?
No, VoIP numbers, Google Voice, app-generated numbers and landlines are not accepted. TwinNumber numbers are registered as mobile.
Does a U.S. number give me Claude where it isn't offered?
No. You need to be in a supported location to create and use a Claude account, and the number must be from one too; a U.S. number doesn't change where you are.
Do I need to live in the U.S.?

What if a code doesn't arrive?
Request a new code, then check your inbox and notification settings. If it keeps failing, contact us and we'll look into it.
