What Relay uses your number for
- Relay texts a one-time code to your mobile number when you sign in with SMS two-factor authentication.
- Payments to new payees, larger amounts or rarely used accounts can ask for an SMS code before they go out.
- Changing the number itself needs a code sent to your current number.

Why the line type matters
Financial services often check whether a number is mobile, landline or VoIP before sending a code, and many turn VoIP numbers away. TwinNumber numbers are registered as mobile.
Why banks reject Google Voice →Questions
Why did Relay ask for a code when I sent a payment?
Relay prompts for SMS verification on payments that touch sensitive activity, such as a new payee or a larger amount. The code goes to your verified 2FA number after you click Initiate Payment.
Can Relay change my number by email if I've lost the old one?
No. Relay doesn't change login details such as your phone number over email; call its Customer Experience team, which updates the number after verifying your identity.
Do I need to live in the U.S.?
No. TwinNumber works from 150+ countries with just a browser and an internet connection.
Is TwinNumber affiliated with Relay?
No. We test our numbers with popular services and publish the results. Relay is a trademark of its owner.
What if a code doesn't arrive?
Request a new code, then check your inbox and notification settings. If it keeps failing, contact us and we'll look into it.
