What Square uses your number for
- Square asks you to turn on two-step verification when you set up and activate your account.
- Codes can come by SMS, by voice call or from an authentication app.
- Changing your sign-in email or phone asks for a verification code first.
Add your TwinNumber on Square
- 01
Open Sign in and security
In the Square Dashboard, go to Settings > Account & Settings > Personal information > Sign in and security.
- 02
Update your phone
Select Update or Add next to your phone number, enter your code, then the new number, and click Confirm.
- 03
Swap the 2-step number
Under Manage two-step verification, select Add phone number for the new one, then Remove next to the old.
Why the line type matters
Payment platforms often check whether a number is mobile, landline or VoIP before sending a code, and many turn VoIP numbers away. TwinNumber numbers are registered as mobile.

Can a team member change the phone on a Square account?
Only account owners can edit their personal account details, so the owner has to make the change.
Does my Square verification number need to receive texts?
Yes, if you choose SMS. Square notes the number must be able to receive SMS messages when you pick it for verification; a voice call or an authentication app are the other options.
Do I need to live in the U.S.?
No. TwinNumber works from 150+ countries with just a browser and an internet connection.
Is TwinNumber affiliated with Square?
No. We test our numbers with popular services and publish the results. Square is a trademark of its owner.
What if a code doesn't arrive?
Request a new code, then check your inbox and notification settings. If it keeps failing, contact us and we'll look into it.
